Reporting to the Online Editor: eNews Online your key performance areas include:
Check the editorial quality of multimedia pieces and scripts before they go live
Ensure editorial standards are maintained
Check spelling, grammar and narrative flow on all stories
Check wire services and news feeds for the day’s news/breaking news
Liaise with the News Editor, Deputy Editors and Multimedia EPs
Sub edit
Copy tasting of wire content
Write some local and international stories
Assist in crafting compelling copy and headlines
Sub piece to camera of multimedia reporters in the field
Assist in deciding which stories drop and which take precedence
Check on the wire services and news fees for the day’s news/breaking news
Deputise where necessary for Deputy News Editors
Manage output on a shift based system
Direct writers/subs
Ad hoc assignment of stories to writers
Liaise with multimedia content producers and EPs to ensure seamless delivery of web elements
Conceptualise and implement together with Editor and Deputy Editors, multi-prong stories and specials
Upload stories and visual content into the content management system
Ensure stories are tagged and effectively linked to other relevant content
Write and compile the daily newsletter
Complete comprehensive handovers to the team that follows
Take charge of the delivery of special projects
Manage social media profiles and content on a shift-based basis
Liaise with external contributors to ensure timeous delivery of columns, blog posts etc.
Requirements:
Computer literate
At least 5 years journalistic experience
Familiarity with one or more web content management systems would be an advantage
Some experience in a supervisory role
Demonstrable interest in and passion for hard news
Good editorial judgement and interpretational skills
Understanding of online news and new media
Perfect English
Strong writing skills and a passion for story telling
Strong visual sense
Strong understanding of journalistic ethics
Good grasp of legal issues around broadcast and online media
Strong work ethic and drive to deliver flawless outcomes
Good sense of humour and robust nature

Deputy News Editor (x2)
Reporting to the Online Editor: eNews Online your key performance areas include:
Provide the final editorial check of multimedia pieces and potentially problematic scripts and text articles before they go live
Ensure editorial standards are maintained
Assist with subbing duties on bigger stories
Work alongside Online Editor in determining broad editorial policies and direction
Liaise with the News Editor and Multimedia EP to ensure seamless delivery of content
Sub edit where necessary
Write web-ready copy where necessary
Oversee the output of editorial teams on your shift
Direct Duty Editors With regards to editorial priorities and delivery priorities
Conceptualise, plan and implement story clusters around major events
Forward planning
Liaise with colleagues in other parts of the news operation to ensure minimal duplication of work
Devise a daily diary and story watch sheet in conjunction with News Editor
Lead a daily pitch meeting with multimedia reporters
Assign stories to Multimedia Reporters and provide them with briefs
Manage multimedia reporters through the course of the news cycle, giving guidance and rebrief as necessary
Present Online diary in general diary meetings
Final editing of the daily newsletter before it is sent out
Compile an overnight handover: diary suggestions and pre-assignment of stories for early morning shift
Devise a day-to-day social media plan that supports the Social Media Manager’s broader strategy
Assist in the management of the Online Newsroom
Train and mentoring junior staffers
Assist in disciplinary matters
Assist in the management of leave and rosters
Liaise with and managing external contributors, including bloggers and columnists
Deputise for the Online Editor
Requirements:

Oversee the technical aspects of building, maintaining and continuously improving the e.tv website and mobile site
Development and maintenance of content management system based on a Drupal platform
Initiate and manage development processes, methodologies and strategies
Build interactive web- and browser-based PHP applications
Custom PHP programming
On-going website maintenance and support
Together with online manager drive new concepts and ideas
Give input and help design user registration, authentication and profiling systems
Front-end theming of modules to be implemented into a Drupal CMS
Use and modify Drupal modules to create new site features
Requirements:
5+ years or more development experience (writing, testing and debugging)

Intern – ENG Camera Operator x 2 – (Johannesburg Newsroom)
Reporting to the Camera Crew Manager: key performance areas include the following training:
record audio and video material to be edited and packaged into a news insert for broadcast
plan and develop the visual presentation of a story with a reporter assigned to the news story
apply the principles of visual story telling through aesthetically pleasing and technically correct compositions, angles and camera movements, making sure to deliver images with the correct exposure and colour balance
cover news events by shooting sequences with continuity for editing purposes
use correct lighting and sound recording techniques to comply with broadcast standards
edit video and audio for a news insert, out on location
transmit video and audio material from out on location back to the studio or to the bureaus, as instructed
Requirements:
A minimum of 2 years study completed and requiring “on the job” training
A keen interest in news and current affairs
A good general knowledge

Manage the Cape Town Newsroom administration which includes budgeting, managing leave, writing reports when required by senior news management

Contribute towards news bulletins by writing, subbing and overseeing content

Requirements:
Minimum five years experience in journalism.

Reporting to the Executive Producer, Sport, your key performance areas will include:
conduct preliminary and follow-up probing telephonic interviews
